Associate, Deal Flow

Associates are the primary service providers at High Street Equity Partners. Your work is key to implementing our vision of equitable investing.

High Street Equity Partners is a venture capital firm that invests in high-growth seed-stage technology companies led by diverse founders. We leverage our operational, financial, and policy expertise to ensure our portfolio companies reach their full potential.

As a Venture Associate with a focus on deal flow, your work will be centered around identifying, sourcing, and evaluating investment opportunities, as well as maintaining strong relationships within the startup ecosystem. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the growth and development of our investment portfolio.

Associates are responsible for research, outreach, and cultivation of deal flow. To ensure success, you should have a clear understanding of our Firm’s core values, particularly the investment thesis and fund strategy framework. Top candidates will be exemplary writers and communicators with strong time management skills and a background in advocating for equity in their industry or discipline.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deal Sourcing & Evaluation:
    • Identify and source high-quality investment opportunities across various sectors, with a focus on early-stage startups.
    • Conduct thorough due diligence, including analyzing market trends, competitive landscapes, financial projections, and management teams.
    • Collaborate with the investment team to evaluate potential deals, providing well-researched recommendations and presenting findings to senior leadership.
    • Comprehensive deal flow data collection and analysis to ensure exceptional reporting to our LP stakeholders.
  • Investment Recommendations: Prepare and present detailed investment memos, including a thorough analysis of the opportunity, risks, and potential returns.
  • Deal Execution:
    • Assist in deal negotiation, structuring, and execution, working closely with legal and financial advisors.
    • Participate in deal documentation and closing processes, ensuring a smooth and efficient transaction.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Stay up-to-date on market trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes to inform investment decisions and identify new opportunities. Prepare and deliver industry reports, whitepapers, and presentations to inform both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Business Development: Develop and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs, co-investors, and other stakeholders in the startup ecosystem to ensure a robust pipeline of high-quality deals.
  • Facilitate internal strategy and work sessions to accomplish deal flow team annual goals, utilizing fellows to assist where necessary.

Performance Requirements & Benchmarks

  • 1,000+ deals per year across our desk.

Preferred Skills

  • Someone that demonstrates our core values and principles with high interest and passion, intellectually acute and curious, and strong work ethic. 
  • 3+ years of experience working as a value-add team member on highly collaborative teams.
  • 3+ years of previous experience leading a project team or product team.
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills for founder interviews and investment memos
  • Demonstrated experience of ethical leadership and strong social-emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills that build relationships with a team of consultants with varying skill levels, stakes and perspectives, and partners
  • Technical knowledge of the venture capital industry such as product-market fit, fundraising rounds, and valuations
  • Experience working with entrepreneurs to grow and scale
  • Experience interpreting data such as pitch decks, financial statements, business metrics, and making decisions based on this type of information
  • Proven track record of building and running successful companies
  • Experience with Monday.com, Typeform, and Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, and Calendar)
  • Experience working in diverse communities and across social, economic, and cultural differences

Compensation

Our Associates are compensated in two ways: Fund Management fee and Carried Interest fee.

<$50m fund: Annual Stipend (5-10% of annual fund management fees) plus 1.2% - 6.2% of Carried Interest fees.

>$50m fund: $132,000 - $291,000 Base Annual Salary (from annual fund management fee) plus 0.0% - 0.95% of Carried Interest fee.
